a friend's response to my comment about how hapas tend to lean more to the extremes in attractiveness (i.e. either gorgeous or troll status and very little in between):

i guess if you're good looking enough to attract someone from a different race (b/c usually races stick together), then you might have a hot baby.

if you're ugly enough that nobody in your race wants you, and you're forced to marry the scraps of anther race, then you have ugly hapas.

haha, is this true?

The alternative hypothesis would be that there is no difference at all.

If that were the case, one explanation would be as follows:

A) People of multiple origins are notable insofar as they stand out relative to a common visual categorization of people by color and appearance. I usually call this 'anachronistic tribalism'.

B) Ugly people are memorable.

C) Fine ass people are memorable.

Conclusion: hapas are either dopealicious or really not so much. (Could be totally wrong!)

This would be a hard one to actually test in the field. How should we go about testing the null hypothesis Ms. Chao? By going clubbing in K-Town next weekend? ;) Dave
